Segheneyti

Segheneyti, 57km south of Asmera is dominated by the huge Catholic Church of Saint Michael and two forts from which there are good views.
In season (mid-June to mid-Septmaber), Segheneyti and the surrounding area are know for the delicious and surprisingly thirst-quenching Beles (prickly pear fruit).

Contiuing south of Segheneyti, the road traverses the plain of Deghera, known popularly as the Valley of the Sycamores fot the magnificient sycamore figs which march a cross the plain. At dusk, the trees make one of the most beautiful natural sights in all of Eritrea. Many are at least 300 years old and there are hopes to declare the whole valley as protected sit in the future.
